Vision and ethos

Our vision is to enable young people and adults with SEND to access lifelong learning pathways, ensuring choice, independence and aspiration.

College objectives

  • To sustainably improve the life chances of young people and adults with SEND, either directly or indirectly
  • To be a collaborative partner to the local authority in providing specialist provision, which is highly effective and affordable
  • To support our local stakeholders in developing partnerships to extend pathways for young people and adult learners for their future lives

Our Christian ethos

As part of the Shaftesbury group of services, we have a broad and inclusive Christian ethos. We welcome people of all faiths and none, to work together towards the good of the whole community.

  • Fairness and diversity
  • Treating people as individuals
  • Being caring and supportive
  • Promoting independence
  • Providing a safe and secure environment

Our diverse culture

We are proud to be such a diverse community, with a rich mix of experience, belief, language and culture. Sharing with each other, and learning from others, is prized. Our positive and open environment promotes understanding and challenges discrimination. Diversity is embedded in our curriculum. We celebrate diversity in many ways throughout the year, focusing on individual cultures and nations with special activities, meals and times of reflection.

Open: We are open and real

We strive to be warm-hearted, straightforward and honest. We open doors and create opportunities. We take time to listen to each other and to the people we work with, because that is how we grow.

Enabling: We think people are amazing

Everyone has something to offer, if they are just given the chance. So, as well as helping with basic needs, we help people take part and be valued – because that is what makes life livable. We are ambitious to achieve real change.

Inclusive: We demand fairness

Far too many people are excluded in our society. We want a fairer world where all are valued, both for what we have in common and for what makes us different. We all share a responsibility to make that a reality.

Courageous: We are the best we can be

Each day we ask ourselves, what can we do better? In work as in life, we are motivated by our bold commitment to making life better for people and their communities, and we hold ourselves to account for the difference we make.
