Why work with us?
Millie College is part of the national disability charity Shaftesbury.
We provide specialist education for young people aged 16-25 with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
Guided by our values of being Open, Enabling, Inclusive and Courageous, we deliver personalised learning and support that changes lives through our enterprise curriculum.
Set on a 350-acre countryside site near Poole, our college offers a unique work environment providing direct access to nature and wellbeing.
Everyone looks out for each other and pulls together when we need to.

Making a real difference
Whether you're supporting a student to master a new skill, helping them to navigate a challenge or participate in work experience, you will know your contribution matters.
Our staff say the relationships they build with students, and the progress they witness, make this truly rewarding work.
Experience is not always essential for support roles – an empathic approach and ability to foster students’ development of independence and life skills is valued.
Every member of our team plays a vital role in supporting our students to overcome barriers, discover their strengths and build confidence for their futures.

A supportive team environment
You'll be joining a dedicated team passionate about specialist education. We work collaboratively across teaching, enterprise, therapy, care and support roles to ensure every student receives comprehensive, joined-up support. Our ethos is rooted in shared learning and mutual respect.
We currently have roles supporting student learning, opportunities working in our enterprise and therapy teams, with term-time flexibility.
Professional development
We're committed to investing in our staff. Shaftesbury defines itself as a ‘learning organisation’, which means we will invest in supporting your career and personal development.
In addition to a friendly working environment, you will have access to:
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training
- Specialist training in areas such as positive behaviour support, intensive interaction and communication strategies
- Mentoring and support from experienced colleagues
- Access to Shaftesbury’s wider training and development programmes
- Employee Assistance Programme
If you're passionate about inclusive education and want a role where you can make an impact, Shaftesbury Millie College offers a unique opportunity. You will develop specialist knowledge and skills and be part of a community that understands and celebrates the achievements of young people with special educational needs.

Volunteering
Volunteering is more than giving your time; it’s a chance to make a real difference. If you enjoy working outdoors, want to develop new skills and make friends along the way, why not join our team?
I’ve always enjoyed nature and being and working outdoors. Working with like minded people, in small groups, there is a real camaraderie.
- Les, volunteer
Safer recruitment and safeguarding
We're committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are subject to comprehensive pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure. We expect all staff and volunteers to share our commitment to safeguarding and to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.
