Funding from donors has enabled Shaftesbury Millie College to purchase an Ambug buggy which will provide students with greater access to nature and learning opportunities on our 350-acre site.
The six-seater electric buggy has given students greater freedom and enabled many to explore outdoor spaces that were previously out of reach.
Some students who have been assessed as competent have completed driving assessments and, with staff support, now help transport their peers – building confidence, independence, and a sense of community.
Emma Browning, Pastoral Lead, said the Ambug had transformed what inclusion looks like at our college.
‘The Ambug has brought a huge amount of joy and opportunity to our students. It’s opened up access to nature and outdoor learning for many young people with disabilities, allowing them to experience the beauty and calm of the site. We’ve seen so many smiles, new friendships, and moments of pride, especially from students who have taken on the responsibility of driving and supporting their peers. It’s been wonderful to see how much this simple addition has enriched their lives.’
